The so-called global North accumulates goods, throws them away, and exports them to the «Third World». This seeming act of charity causes the «global south» to sell the goods on the sidewalk instead of producing them themselves. Under the motto «Now bite the hand that feeds you», the latest edition of «Boda Boda Lounge» questions our language and the image of the helping hand to expose a system of dependencies.
The biennial artist film festival «Boda Boda Lounge» has been presenting short films by artists from the African continent and its diaspora in over twenty African locations each year since 2014. In 2021, the selection will be shown outside Africa for the first time – at City SALTS in Birsfelden, Switzerland.
«Boda Boda» (Border Border) pleads for the overcoming of borders. SALTS is kicking off its annual program, which was developed together with the Boda Boda Lounge's co-founder, the WAZA art center from Lubumbashi (D.R. Congo).
