Solo presentation by Thomas Jeppe for Kunstverein SALTS
at The Salon by NADA and The Community

For The Salon, Kunstverein SALTS presented Thomas Jeppe’s large summer series "Power Studies" (2024) alongside the smaller-format series "Tumult 2024," fresh from the studio, in a display armature custom-produced for the fair setting.

"Power Studies" featured four paintings centered around the anthropomorphic figure of a lemon tree. As sites of, rivals to, and obstacles for the production of energy, these trees embody an ambiguous relationship to power. The series has been accompanied by "Tumult 2024," unusually abstract for the artist, depicting cropped sections of the sky drawn from various news reports throughout 2024.

Thomas Jeppe’s solo presentation continued a series of collaborations between the artist and curator Benedikt Wyss. Previous projects include the underground gallery "Unsere Umwelt," produced in 2016 as part of the "Haus #99" demolition residency, the 2017 exhibition "Umwelt Mode" in a gutted building, both in Basel, and the semi-underground garden installation "Power Studies" at City SALTS in Summer 2024.

“The Salon’s collaborative model, which overcomes the often misunderstood separation between commercial and non-profit initiatives, not only offers a novel visitor experience but also holds transformative power within the art community. I have enjoyed the sense of neighborly care and exchange, as we collectively bridge the gap.” Benedikt Wyss (Curator SALTS)
